Rucci, Ralph
(1957- )
   Born in South Philadelphia and trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Rucci began his career working for Halston in 1980. After producing his first show in 1981, which failed to solicit orders, he closed his business but then reopened in 1993 under the name Chado. Ralph Rucci is the first American designer, since Mainbocher, to show couture in Paris as part of the Chambre Syndicale. In 2006, Rucci was awarded the first Couture Council Award presented by the Couture Council of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
